What's the best way of going about this? I only ever hear this being offered to people on benefits and council housing estates.

How can I get it?:(

That's all i've heard as well. I went and bought a **** load from Wickes as a result of working.

I think energy companies have to do this for free, at least thats how i got mine done. You dont have to be their customer either.

I dont know if they still do this though. I filled out an online form for British Gas and a company called everwarm contacted me on their behalf and did it all. This was in January.

I got mine done last year, as far as i am aware the scheme to get free insulation ended around november last year, you did not need to be on benefits to get it, i was working full time.

Some utility firms are still offering free insulation, & boilers upgrades, easiest way to find out, is to google your energy suppler plus free insulation.

EDF & Scottish Power were two still doing it.

When i moved into my house it was on that free offer, well almost £1 per roll, i done the whole house for £20. Just moved into a new office and thought id get some more, wow its now its like £20 for one roll!

Get on the. Government the website and search energy efficiency, that how I got ours had the loft lagged and they are doing cavity wall Insulation for free as we have Hard To Treat walls. It will depend on your property but there is lots of funding out there for insulation as the government didn't hit the co2 offer target last year.

Got 18 rolls off Freecycle a few months back to top up the loft, got about 500mm up there now.

Is there a limit on how much you should have up there? I've got like 1/4 of that was recommended to double it.

I wish I bought loads when it was £1 a roll but I didn't need any then. Holding out for the same deal again.

your basic new house / extension standard ranges around 250 - 300 mm glasswool in the level ceiling but as with nightglow no harm in putting more providing you still maintain your eaves ventilation airgaps

It's already been mentioned, but it's essential you keep the eaves ventilation.

Slightly off topic, I'm rewiring the shack in the new year, & as I have the floorboards up, I'm taking opportunity to lay down around 200mm of loft insulation between the joists, which again came off Freecycle.

My parents has it done a little while ago. They already had insulation up there, but this added another 12 inches or something. Definitely made a big difference.

We have had the surveyor come round but they will only do it if we fit another roof vent and they can do at least two thirds of the space, which will involve me ripping up the boarded section, which is loaded with junk.

Not sure if I can be bothered.

If your postcode is in the top 10% deprived areas then you can get free insulation via the CSCO scheme. No benefits claims required.

I got mine done by Dyson Energy Services.

How do you find out if you're postcode is deprived or not?

Beaten to it but least you don't have to give *all* your details away just to find out with my example.
