I recently got a new 15" i7 MBP and installed Logic 8 on it with all the audio content.
Yesterday I was trying to write some music in it but found that the program kept hanging. I tried many things including deleting the preference files and re-installing Logic without success.
This morning I formatted the laptop, ran Software Update, installed Logic 8 and ran Software Update again to update Logic itself. The problem remains and is consistent; every time I open the program and choose the 'Instruments' template, Logic gets as far as loading the 'Liverpool Bass' preset and then hangs with a spinning beachball. It does this every single time I try it.
The Apple 'extended hardware test' reports no issues, and neither does disk verification. All settings are default and I am using no peripherals. Before I formatted, no other software was having problems at all and the laptop seemed perfectly stable and robust.
I believe this is down to a software bug in Logic 8 - an incompatibility with the new Core i5 / i7 laptops - but I cannot find any other reports of it on the internet. So...
1. Does anyone else have Logic 8 running successfully on a 2010 MBP?
2. Can anyone think of anything else I can try?
I normally use Logic a great deal so this is a real problem for me. It worked perfectly fine on my old 2007 MBP.
If I can't get anywhere with this I'll probably have to shell out for the upgrade to Logic 9, but that is unfortunate as I don't really feel I need the new features of it. Thanks for any replies as I know this is a long post - and a long shot
