Hey guys

Worked my bum off full time for the last few weeks before uni starts, and have a bit of extra cash :)

No sli motherboard, but I love my reliable ds3r anyway so just have to look at single card upgrades. How noticeable a difference will there be with say a 4870 at 1440x900 in crysis / cod4 over my current gts 512?

Or are there any other cards that would give a better performance, even a 4850?

Buy a 4870 now :)
Prices will be going over £200 again soon so buy as soon as you can.

Hmmm actually i have just noticed your res and i wouldnt bother with an upgrade.

I would leave it for a generation.

Wait for the next line of nvidia or ati card.

At your current res its not worth the outlay. If you were on a 24" then yes maybe 1920x1200 territory.

yeh it's a 8800 GTS 320mb

I may go for 4850 or indeed leave it until the next gen is out

I went from 8800gts 320 to a 4870.

Have to say I'm loving it :D Got it b4 the latest price rises so only 158 with the nice 10% off ocuk gave me :D

i would leave it personally - theres nothing you wont be able to play for a few months
plus you can get some next gen hardware when the big guns decide to sort their stuff out

You can wait but if you have the money and want to spend it get the 4870 now while it is still only £170.

Okay, I play at a slightly higher res of 1680 x 1050 but even with that I can't play GRID over 8xaa without it affecting the framerate too much.

Company of heroes dx10 with everything on ultra still won't run at 8xaa and I have to only use 4xaa (8xaa drops the minimum framerate down to 10fps on the benchmark wheres 4xaa is almost 30fps)

I am sure at the moment you play most of your games with reasonable framerates but hardly any aa?

You will be able to play everything maxxed out with a 4870 with probably 8xaa on everything, crysis excluded of course)

I used to have a 8800GTS 320Mb before I went to a 4870 (via a 8800GT and 8800GTS 512Mb which were all bought and sold for the same purchase cost of the next one :D)
