Logical Upgrade from Intel i5-650 dual core

What's a logical upgrade to my Intel i5-650? I am getting around 30-45 FPS on Farcry 4. I use a GTX 970 so I reckon it's my CPU that's bottlenecking da ting. What do you guys think? I understand that I will have to buy a new motherboard as well.

FC4 can bring a Titan X to its knees; at what resolution are you running and what settings are you using?

could go for a used an i5 750? quad core? or an i7 870 that has hyperthreading

or go for new board/cpu/ram

I was not aware of that. I am only running at 1080p.

Thanks for the idea, Wazza. I've been scoping out used Sandy Bridge chips. They might be my best bang for buck.
