My MX 501 mouse just started acting up and i'm looking for a mouse to replace it.

I'm looking for a wireless mouse that can hold it's own in games. I've spotted the MX 1000 and just wanted opinions its use as a gaming mouse.

I've read a review over at toms and he reckons it's better for gaming than the mx518 despite having half the dpi.

Opinions....

No

For a kick off it switches itself off if left inactive. Gaming mice dont.
Its really heavy. Its a real nice mouse for browsing as i have one but i use my razor copperhead red for gaming and its different class.

It depends on your manliness :p ¬_¬

Anyway, the auto power off is a 100% non issue, who starts a game and leaves the mouse idle when playing for a start? the delay to bring it back to life is virtually non existent and you will not notice it.

I've had 3 MX1000 over the past 2.5 years and game allot in CS:S and other popular titles, no issues at all.

The weight is also fine, it is easy to grip and it slides effortlessly around the desk and response lag is virtually invisible. I use it in games alongside the s510 cordless keyboard and find no difference to when I had wired. In fact I don't like wired kb/mice anymore, too much clutter and not enough freedom.

Battery life is also a non issue, it takes 2 hours to charge the battery from empty and the charge lasts a good week of daily usage several hours a day. It also gives clear indication onscreen and on the mouse when the battery has just a few hours left.

At £35 now (I paid 60 for mine) it's a total no brainer.

Do yourself a favour and buy a corded mouse, those extra few ms make a difference. My mate had an MX1000 and ended up buying an MX510 a week later. There was no mx518 in those days, it was one of the first laser mice. I'd really recommend going for the MX518, or G5 if you can. Or the G7 if you must have a cordless mouse :p (comes with 2 batteries for hotswapping - very fancy)

tbh personal preference is what you should base mouse choice on, you decide from 2 catagories...

gaming - copperhead, habu, g5 or g7
all round - mx1000, intellimouse explorer

from then on its personal preference, if u use your whole palm on the mouse, go for a logitech, if you use just the top of your hand on the mouse, go for a razer. imo razor copperhead the best gaming mouse.

:p
Jeez do i have to repeat myself so soon. :p
MX1000 is awesome mate and at the current price is a steal.
I game a lot and i mean a lot, over 1300 hours of BF2 for a start and all with the MX1000, prior to that i had and still own the 510. The reason i kept it was it took me ages to make the switch to chordless as i am hardcore when it comes to gaming. I was not convinced that the 1000 would cut it so kept my 510 and only got the 1000 when i could get it cheap from M&M.
I plugged it in and Loved it from day one, its gorgeous, my baby and an extension of my arm :)
The comments about the inactivity switch off are laughable as who the hell doesn't move there mouse when gaming :p Even so if you were a camping gay boy and static for long enouth for it to switch of it's milliseconds to re-activate.
The shape of it for normal handed people is perfect and as i say it just becomes an extension of your arm. The detachment is the best thing about it though as it is as accurate and precise as the 510 but hasn't got the restrictions of the chord.
I have cained mine and worn the feet away but a quick phone call to Logitech and they sent me new ones for nowt. Attached my 1000 is as good as new if not better.
I Highly recommend the MX1000 and Logitech as there after sales is second to None.

You answered your own statement with the solution (in an invisible way :p)

The first few setpoint/itouch software/drivers for the mouse released had lag issues and odd issues in games. Logitech fixed this several updates later and all lag issues are gone.

Great mouse, was the first truly excellent mouse I owned.

It is wider than many and has that nice side section for your thumb, don't know about it being heavy never even noticed it, but I do have ape hands.

The auto power thing is a non issue, it has a power down cycle that goes in mutliple stages over a quite long period of time, not like it just shuts itself off after 5 seconds. even from its deepest sleep state I never noticed any power up time, was literally instant.

It falls on the lower end of the DPI scale with most newer gaming mice, but frankly if you needed 2k dpi and all the rest you'd probably know what mouse to get.
For the money however I think it is very hard to beat.

And lastly, as always and as said above, mouse and keyboard are just so very personal. Trying before you buy from OcUK is always smart.
