As most of you know, Logitech customer support is just made of win, they replace pretty much anything, and often without a proof of purchase, as long as you can sort them out some basic details. I myself have had a few products replaced under warranty with no issues.
Moving on, I recently purchased a Logitech Speaker Dock for my iPhone from a well known auction site about £15 cheaper than most online retailers, with £5 postage charge. The seller marked the item as despatched 2 days after, and today it turned up.
What striked me as strange was it turned up via UPS. Now we all know UPS are probably they most expensive courier and sending something like this via UPS would have cost £15+ easily. Anyway, the shipping label is from Logitech CS in Netherlands. As soon as I saw this, I knew exactly what he'd done. Open the packing slip to find, yes you guessed it, "replaced within warranty" on the invoice.
So it's quite clear what he's doing. He's selling these items on eBay, and then logging fraudulent warranty claims in the "buyer's" name with Logitech and getting them a new one shipped out. Looking at his feedback and his current listings, he's doing this about 10-15 times a week, each time pocketing between £50 and £120.
Whilst the buyer may receive brand new Logitech item, I still don't think he should be allowed to get away with it. Not only is he ripping off Logitech (which isn't hard to be honest), he is logging faults in buyer's names without them knowing. Not only that, he's charging £5 delivery when Logitech send replacements out free of charge!
I have e-mailed the seller to explain what's going on, funnily enough I've had no response. I am going to get a full refund including postage costs back without a doubt or he will regret getting me as a buyer ...
The only thing I cant figure out is where he's getting a list of serial numbers from to log claims, but then I guess if you work in somewhere like PCWorld then these can be obtained from the side of the boxes in the back kinda thing?
What would you do now? Would you just keep quiet and carrying with your shiney new product, or would you dob him in to both eBay and Logitech, or would you keep quiet for a backhander? LOL
