I suspect it's the rechargeable batteries I'm using with it, and I'm about to go into town to buy new ones, but I'd appreciate some other takes on what could be wrong with it:
During normal use the keyboard starts switching F-Lock on and off on its own. Pushing its connect button sometimes stops it and it returns to normal, but sometimes it leads to other weirdness, such as the Windows Start key or the context menu key not working, or sometimes the media player start/stop/track fwds/back keys not working.
I would immediately guess dying batteries if it weren't for the fact that this happens at night more than during the day, and that sometimes it'll start acting up and then stop and go on working normally until the next evening...

that is weird, has it ever worked fine? I'd get a pack of cheapish normal batteries just to test for a day and see if it works fine, if it does get some new high end rechargable ones and ahve fun. If it has never worked fine, even with the supplied batteries, then its faulty tbh. You haven't spilt something on it have you?

Interference, try changing the channel... When my Momo Steering Wheel is plugged in it plays havoc with the keyboard.

Once you have ruled out batts.

EDIT : Logitech Forums seem weird now and I cannot find the guide to fully reset hardware.

I will type it in manually soon.

I got new batteries, but obviously since it happens intermittently I need to wait a couple days before I can rule it out. I thought it might be interference, and I experimented moving my mobile phone around in the room in case that was causing it, but I've had the same phone and the same kb/mouse combo for years now.

We'll see...

Try moving the receiver, it might be that a neighbour has bought a device that shares the same frequency as your keyboard and mouse and that it seems to only happen of an evening supports this further, as I previously said, when my wheel was plugged in it interfered with my keyboard with keys getting stuck or just not working, as soon as the DC plug was taken out the wheel the keyboard functioned normally again.
