Hi all

I fancy getting myself a very early Christmas present in a steering wheel but I'm not sure what to get, the G27 or the Forza Motorsport CSR Wheel? I'm leaning towards the Fanatec at the moment as I will be able to use it with my Xbox. Any help is appreciated.

I'd would say go with the Fanatec, as well as it being compatible with the xbox I'm pretty sure it's also compatible with the PS3? Although bare in mind with the newer consoles it's more than likely not going to work with them, if that was any relevance to you.

I've got the Logitech G25 and this wheel has been brilliant in the 3/4 years of ownership, but I've heard of the Fanatec being a better quality wheel, which I suppose goes with the higher price tag (haven't looked since looking into my G25 vs whatever).

Hope that helps.

I had the CSR wheel and I'm afraid to say the build quality was pretty poor... its plastic as opposed to metal G27 + you have to buy pedals and gear shifter separately... I sold it about a month after buying it and went back to the G27. Xbox compatibility was nice and the FFB was superb but its definitely not worth the price tag.

EDIT: have you thought about the Thrustmaster? I hear very good things about that wheel?

Any excuse to show off my setup ;)

I've been looking at the Fanatec stuff (since my 2nd DFGT is starting to make those noises again - but this ones out of warranty..), but n3x has put me off :p. It's a shame as they have the cross compatibility, but I'm starting to only play racing games on the PC (Forza too, but that's less serious).

Either Thrustmaster T500RS or Logitech G27 for wheel choice i'd say :)

Also rather jealous of that setup :p

GT Omega wheel stand

I made a thread last night about stands :)

I did see it and I'll go with that as it looks better than Fanatec's for a similar price. I just found out today I'm getting an immediate pay rise of £1500 a year and by next year it should have gone up by £4500. Time to treat myself, I think :D

Just seen that they are out of stock till mid December :(

I had the Wheel Stand Pro previously setup with my G27 and can recommend that if you are looking at alternatives ;)

To update, I should be getting My Thrustmaster T500 rs today and I will be getting the GT Omega stand when it comes back in stock. Going to be a bit awkward up till then though.

I can recommend using the ironing board as a temporary wheel stand... worked for me for a few days :p

Heh, I did that briefly with a DFGT :D
I'm not so sure that an ironing board could handle the power of a T500 though. That thing has some serious torque.

I can confirm it seriously does :D I had to buy a stand as all temporally solutions didn't really work and with the GT Omega Stand not back in stock till Mid December I went with the Wheel Stand Pro.

I've had a few wheels and have stuck with Fanatec recently.

Their build quality can be slightly dodgy, but for me, well worth sticking out..

The main thing is the customisation it offers, the exact steering range, linearity, and FFB levels can be fine tuned on the wheel and stored in presets. It even does auto clutch for games like Forza.. Not to mention it obvoiusly works on all current gen platforms, but not next gen..

Ultimately it's down to the individual, I currently use a CSR + Club sport pedals and it was the ability to fine tune it that really helped me out in GT5 and Forza in actually getting better laptimes..

I'm now hoping Fanatec do a next gen cross platform wheel, until then, I'm sticking with the CSR/Clubsports
