I'm planning to buy a new mouse. My MX510 is getting old now, and I was thinking of getting a G5, but I have heard bad things about laser mice for gaming in the past.

How good is the G5? (for anyone who has it)
Would you recommend it for full time gaming?
Will the "laser" work on any desktop surface like the optical mice?

That's all thanks ;)

Just remember that it has one less side button (since you're a gamer), can't believe why logitech would do this to their top of the range 'gaming' mouse

It's a great mouse if you're into gaming, also with the with the adjustable weight cartridge you can make it as heavy or as light as possible. if you use a hard mousepad there are some compatibility issues but a firmware flash fixes it ( available from logitech.com ). Personally i would reccomend it, I've had mine since they came out. The price tag is a little daunting but its worth it :)

I switched from the Logitech MX 510 to the G5, I am very pleased with the new mouse. It has a better grip & the top surface doesnt have a polish feel to it - hopefully this will stop dirt attaching itself to it so easily like the MX510 did. Also the adjustible weights are an added bonus, the cord is nylon braided compared to the normal pvc - the only bad point is there only being a back button - on the MX510 you had a forward & back button.

I would reccomend this mouse anyday.

I had to use one for 2 weeks a while back and I didn't like it at all. I was glad to get back to my MX1000 which just felt overall better and smoother. Plus the extra side button on the MX1000 really comes in useful.
