Morning

I don't know much about audio and sound and was wondering if someone could help me out. I would like to replace my current 5 speakers with 2 bookshelf speakers.

I wish to plug them into the sub-woofer that came with Logitech g51. I am guessing i'd have to plug them into red and white ports.

where it says Left Right AUX

After that i am a bit lost. If speakers connect to sub-woofer, then how do i connect subwoofer to pc.

Can someone in the know explain this process please?

you just plug the book shelves were the speakers that came with the sub go ie front left and right, and plug the pc to green jack labled front.

check the impedence of the all the speakers, i connect my bookshelf s to my old 2.1 and I had to turn the volume to max to get any sound out of it. as the amp was 4 omes and the bookshelf s were 6-8 oms

Thanks for reply. Managed to pull this info about my sub:
Subwoofer: 56 watts RMS (into 2 ohms, @ 100Hz, @ 10% THD)
It says 2 ohms. Do ohms suppose to match with speakers? or ohms is like a power level of an amp? the higher it is the louder speakers becouse? Taking into account that speakers have high ohms as well?

I'm no expert on the electrical side of things but what bookshelf speakers do you intend on buying? It would be ideal to have a decent sub to go along with the speakers ;)

ohms is the resistance of the speakers

so your 2ohm amp will strugglr to drive 6ohm, it will work you just have to turn up the volume, which if any thing like my old creative 2.1 only sounds good halve way at max I can hear the amp though the speakers

I am planning to get Edifier R1600T which is on sale now

I don't really know if thats going to work but i think i am better off as i am right now since my sub/amp is not powerful enough. Am i right?
my current sub has built in amp i think, or is it the case with all subs?
them edifers has a built in amp that would work, just be very very careful with the volume.

I would set the edifers very low to start with ie 0 and the logitec to what you would normally have the volume set to and then bring the edifers up to an acceptable level im guessing just above 0 to 1and control the volume with the logitec.

there are active and passive subs, active have a builtin amp passives have no amp

The Edifier's are already amped so an amp won't be necessary.

I would see how they sound first without a sub but it's likely you'll need one if you have a 5.1 setup :p

I think plugging the logitec to the sub output would work, then all you would have to do is plug the edifers to thefront out put at the back of the pc this will safer as you can not over amp and cook the edifers this way

that kinda make sense, but wouldn't sub work independent from edifiers? from what i understand, and i dont know much is that edifiers r 2.0? and anything with sub is basically 2.1, 5.1, 7.1 and so on?

Yeah the .1 implies there is one subwoofer in this case there is none and 2 speakers so 2.0 :)

Also I would have thought you would be thinking of selling the G51 setup unless you have another use for them? (scrap the sub idea :p)

yep, chucked them on the MM forum and ebay, will go regardless of the price as i already made up my mind in regards to edifiers :D Also thinking which sound card to get. had Asus xonar dg but fancy something with actual driver updates :D

I've just spotted another great looking pair of simmilar to edifiers.

Those Wharfdale's don't have a built in amp going by the pictures so you'd have to find a way of hooking them up to your subwoofer or buy a separate amp. Just get the Edifier's!

Well the Edifiers have knobs on the side so there is an integrated amp and so you can directly connect it to your PC. The Wharfdale's don't appear to have anything, very much like my speakers which I have hooked up to a dedicated amp. You most likely won't be able to hook the Wharfdales's directly to your PC as they will almost certainly use bare wire. Even if you could they would be extremely quiet.
