hi,

Just bought the G920 and wondering if I really need the shifter for manual clutch, I could just use the paddle shift?

Yes you can use the paddles with the clutch pedal

Having the shifter is a great addition if you can add one at a later date

Daft question, but do you think using the G920 can help certain factors of real driving such as coordination, working the pedals etc..? The main drive for me deciding to get it was that perhaps it might remove the anxiety of pedal control and coordination as well as starting stopping in a real car, a real anxious point that stops me from even attempting to learn to drive.

I cancelled the order for now whilst I think about it

So you can use the clutch pedal without a shifter yes, in most games at least.
Practising driving in sims is most certainly helpful. Coordination between pressing clutch and changing gear, and move your right foot between accelerator and brake.

But it's not quite the same as the real thing. The pedals wont feel like a real car, unless you spend £100's on a set. Throttle might be close, but brakes and clutches are mostly hydraulic based and that feels different to a plastic set of pedals with springs in them. Every car feels different too and takes some adjusting to. It's something you'll find out when you start to drive. You will need to learn how to drive the car your learning in, and over several hours you will get smoother.

I would say, a little yes, it’ll get you used to the pedals, although I would say they are much firmer on the G920 (and you’ll want to do the brake pedal mod) and of course you don’t have the various forces that act on you in a real car that will of course make it feel different. I would also add that the anxiety soon passes if you can take the plunge. It’s funny to think of my instructor always telling me to speed up :p

After a period of sim racing it always takes me a few minutes to adjust back into my car. Always feels weird for a bit.

It's worth a go! I felt the same way a while back, so I bought a wheel with clutch pedal and a shifter and spent a while just driving around in FH4. While it's fairly arcade-y in terms of the car physics, it can be surprisingly involved and really helped me feel more comfortable with the thought of taking lessons.

As an added bonus, it's also really fun to just drive around aimlessly with a wheel and pedals in FH4. Would definitely recommend.

I didn't know that was a thing, my biggest bugbear with the G920 is the brake pedal. I usually end up adjusting the tolerances in the game to only use 20% of the pedal or something.

Thanks! :)

If I remember correctly there’s a piece of plastic you can remove that loosens the spring a bit. Easy to do, there’s a few videos about how to do it. I have pretty strong legs and I struggled with that pedal. No idea if they still make it that firm. Mine is from years ago.

I bought the G920 in the end its great, the pedals just seem easy to use, i can imagine pedals for normal driving in real life would be almost auto pilot.

Going really fast and racing though, it's kind of hard, saying that had a go at Forza Horizon 4 and just spin out, there doesn't appear to be a wheel rotation angle in game anymore too which everyone suggests changing
