hey chaps, mine just turned up, just wondering before i setup..

do you need the software running at start up for it to work correctly?

what method do you use to switch between speakers and headset?

do you bother with the gaming profiles?

any other tips for tweaking?

There's probably a more recent set of drivers than the one you get on the disk. It's worth checking the logitch site for those.

I'm not sure about whether you need the software actually - i do have it running all the time. A modern computer isn't going to be stressed by having a few potentially unnecessary startup items as long as you don't go overboard.

My method of switching: I unplug the dongle from its usb extension cable. Windows then switches back to the speakers. When i want to use headphones, i plug the dongle back in, and any active sound gets switched over to the headhones (takes a few seconds sometimes).

I don't bother with the profiles; i have the middle button set to play/pause, the left button to skip to next track, and the right button to toggle the headphone's equaliser. So I can switch that off when I'm gaming, and back on when i'm listening to music.

yes! having loads! it all installed fine and worked, when i rebooted it would not load without error, seem to have gotten around that, but no matter what i do the logitech software won't load when i reboot, its told to in msconfig, but does not, so the headphones work but they are not proper 7.1 and i have no sub unless i manually load the logi software from start programs first.

first impressions are the headset is sweet, but the software is shocking

I've actually had to stop using this headset because I have a big head and the headband was clamping too tightly :(

Are you using the driver cd included with the headset? Don't use them, use the up to date drivers on the logitech website.

The software doesn't need to be running, but you will lose your customised settings (bass, treble etc). It doesn't need to be running at startup, just launch the software when you want to use the headset.

The fastest method of switching playback device is removing the dongle as described.

all fixed, it was UAC blocking it, had to disable it. bit peed at that as i had it set to low, im not a windows noob and have plenty of MS qualifications... with that i think UAC has its place and set to low is good. A little angered that i have to disable because of the logi software. run as admin did not fix. just refused to load at startup

Sorry I didn't get back to you Jimlad :s

I couldn't get mine to run on start up either and used to get the runtime error.

I had to disable it on start up and run as admin when I need to use them. I was kinda hoping that you would find a good work around :(

I really want to review the headset on the ocuk but tbh I don't think I could say everything in 1000 characters.

Let me know how long it takes them to break. Mine lasted a week now the right ear cup dangles about out the socket. Have to rmA them.

Have u disabled uac?

No I don't really want to disable it.

It is a little annoying to have to run the software every time I use the headset but the way I see it is that I still have to plug in my dongle, turn the headset on and in that time I've already fired up the software.

Thing is that it's a premium product and should not have these issues and it's not like they have just been released and are having teething problems, they have been out for ages

well yeah i agree, i had the same moan on the Logitech forums. However that is your issue. Turning UAC off will resolve your problem of it failing to load at startup.

I'm amazed that anyone but a computer nooblet uses uac. Each to their own though i guess.

UAC gets in the way of a lot of programmes working properly, as i said to jimland its the first thing i do upon a windows install is turn it off.

i took place in a massive debate on UAC as part of some MS training, and compared to VISTA it does work quite well and less resource hungry than having say a AV and Spyware protector running at the same time. i would ideally like to dumb it down and leave it as it is as i can honestly say i have not had an issue with UAC before on win7. but it sure does not like the logitech software. i would suggest that is an issue with logitech more so than windows7

so mine is disabled now on my main pc. however i will leave it on the lowest setting on his laptop and my other pc's.

UAC's job is to verify with the user that the requested administrative action is OK to proceed with. If you ever had a WinXP machine a few years ago, before UAC, and something or someone had managed to compromize security, they could make changes as you without you ever knowing. by disbaling you do allow that door to open.

Then add to that, it protects against accidental changes that you might not have intended to make (that is the noob bit we don't need)

Might as well hijack this as there's a bunch of owners in here and I only have 1 quick question :p

Can 1 of the buttons be programmed to answer Skype so I don't have to tab out while gaming?
