Can anyone explain to me why Logitech think they can get away with offering a "budget" gaming mouse for £35 (G100s) and an optical gaming mouse for £50 (G400s)..?

I just don't get it. You can pick up a laser gaming mouse for <£50, and a budget gaming mouse for <£20, easily.

What makes the new Logitech mice so good that they are worth the huge premium..?

"Delta Zero sensor technology" = ???

Again, marketing nonsense. Does the same damn thing. LOL at 'Delta Zero Sensor bla bla bla blab'. Get yourself a ten quid mouse. Does the same damn thing.

I just bought a £15 gaming mouse from the sale (Gigabyte one) to replace a G400, but it handles like **** (move mouse right and mouse cursor goes up + right). Also you can only adjust the dpi in intervals of 400.
it's also nowhere near as comfortable to grip.

so yeah bargain mice ain't all that useful.

To my surprise Logitech (at least on OcUK) have a HUGE gap in their line up. There is no mid-range unit, it's either super cheap or expensive. By the time you are spending the £££ on the mice worth buying with Logitech you might as well go the extra few quid and get a premium product from another brand.

well the 100s @ £35 is advertised as their "budget" mouse :DD says it all really.
