Logitech have officially entered the world of Direct Drive wheelbase

Well they went up in price overnight. A naughty move after all the initial reviews / previews are out? Or maybe amended due to massive demand?

does the website still say excluding tax?
I was looking and the website was being a pain with a UK address, but it did say excluding tax

Including tax. I snagged some pedals last night with a 15% voucher for signing up to their email list. £254 instead of £299. Gone up to £349 today. A 24 hour intro price seems a bit odd.

Oh yeah, the Logi website wouldn't accept a UK postcode, kept insisting on a zip code, I couldn't finish the purchase because of it. Eventually went through Paypal and luckily PP completed all the address details so it went through. Was a PITA for a while though.

Also, the pedals kept going out of stock, then available again, every few minutes. I guess they were hammered with orders, which could be why they raised the price, but who knows.

Ultimate model over £3.5k, and that doesn't even come with a wheel - just the motor and PSU.

I heard about those years ago. They could snap your wrists when set stupidly high. GamerMuscle was trying them out from way back. Obviously you wouldn't set them for that torque but the power was there.

Except the DD1 is at least £250 more than this and that's without a rim.
The Logitech seems like a decent product, but if I HAD to have console compatibility (and didn't care about being locked into ecosystems and crappy QR's), I'd probably go for the CSL DD and save some cash.

Also, those pedals should be closer to T-LCM / CSL-LC money. The CSL Elite V2's are far superior for similar cash.

Wow! Never knew direct drive wheels cost that much? £999?
Around a grand has been the starting point for years tbh.
It's only in the last couple of years since the CSL DD that we've had a bunch of more relatively affordable DD bases.

Just for comparison:

Logitech DD: 11Nm, £1k
Fanatec DD1: 20Nm, £750-1k on used market
Fanatec DD2: 25Nm £1.5k
Bodnar Ultimate: 26Nm £3.5k

EDIT: Logitech DD includes a wheel and others don't, basic fanatec wheels start at £150ish but you're looking at £300-350 for something decent. That's brand new, there also usually good used deals on these on ebay that can be had for around 50% of new prices.

Looking at the above you're much better off with one of the fanatec offerings. I know max torque isn't the only thing that matters on these units but it is a good indicator of overall build quality (unit must be built stronger to handle more torque) and the feel/precision of these top-end wheels is broadly similar. The main differentiator apart from torque is the peripheral ecosystem and compatibility with/availability of 3rd party peripherals.

Owning a fanatec belt drive unit myself (see sig, bought used in spring 2020) I can say that fanatec's build quality is great and the support and customer service are pretty good, I had zero issue buying a replacement part even though I didn't have original proof of purchase for my unit and the cost of the part was very reasonable. I owned a Logitech G25 before that and I had a much worse experience overall with logitech, build quality wasn't great and trying to get support from logitech was impossible, they refused to deal with me because I had bought it used and didn't have original proof of purchase.

I wouldn't say Fanatecs build quality is that good:
-QR lite is a bit crap and when it shears in half Fanatec recommend you buy a metal QR1
-QR1, the tolerances are all over the shop causing rattle, you can fix this by using a retaining screw which negates the 'quick release' part of QR1
-anodised screws used in the Fanatec v3 pedals are made of cheese.
-support lead times have gone downhill since the release of the CSL DD/Pro.

They are just really good at marketing.

Fair enough, I haven't owned any of those, I was mainly referring to their wheel bases. I'm usually a stickler for build quality, I own the CSWv2.5 wheel base, BMW GT2 wheel and CSL elite pedals and I have zero complaints.
