I've got a Logitech MX 1000, the laser has just stopped working after 3/4 years of awesomeness.

Love the feel of it, the shape fits the hand well etc.

Now the question is, do I replace it with the logical evolution of the Mx Revolution (which only has 800dpi) or do I go with a different like the G5 or Mx 518 gaming models?

I'm a gamer, into TF2, CS:S but also RTS so I think the higher dpi might make a difference, any advice?

Any reason you don't want another MX1000?

I've got one myself at home and love it to bits.

I previously used an MX510, and now use that in work.

If your gaming the 800DPI may hinder you (especially as you've mentioned some FPS games).

For the sake of £8 I'd personally get the G5. A mate of mine bought one a few months ago and he says it's easily the best thing he's bought PC wise in a long while.

I generally upgrade when things wear out like this, the MX1000 was my first awesome mouse which is why I was thinking of keeping in the family.

I'll see if I can find a G5 to check out the size and feel of them. If the life is 3 years+ per mouse I think that warrants getting a decent mouse despite the costs.
