Hey,

Just got a simple question: are the keyboards on the s510 with media remote, and s510 without media remote, exactly the same?

I just called up Logitech support and he says that the two packages differ in receiver types, one is usb and the other is "something else".. and he said that the keyboards "probably should work the same", however he sounded like someone that didn't know what he was talking about.. so I come to the trusted members here. :P

As some of you may know, I recently had a ceiling leak from the flat upstairs - destroyed my keyboard, I have the s510 media remote package, and I only need the keyboard replacing, so the cheaper option for me would be to buy the package without the media remote since I only need the keyboard replacing.

Thanks for your help.

the media comes with...suprise...the media remote control. the package without.....wait for it..........

....doesnt.

Being serious, thats it as far as i know. i have the s510 media remote package as well. great keyboard, great remote, god awful mouse. ok for wireless browsing in your armchair or something though. for everythign else, i use an mx518

cant you claim on house insurance or something? or is it not worth the hassle?

edit: looking at the pics, they show a different reciever for the keyboard+mouse on the non-remote version. hmm

one has USB RF mini-receiver with USB stand plus the other has USB / PS/2 - RF receiver with 3 LEDs • USB to PS/2 adapter, the second does come with a usb plug and a PS/2 adapter so you can use usb or PS/2.So the guy at logitech was right same keyboard just different adapters.

Just not worth the hassle with insurance.. the only thing that got damaged was the keyboard - I'll consider myself quite lucky, could have been worse.

I would have thought that the property management company would pay for my damages, but they won't.. I'm not going to pursue it over a broken keyboard even though I think they're wrong.. life isn't fair, but meh.

So will the difference in receivers be of any consequence - are the keyboards still wired the same, to respond to the same radio frequency?

Most likely the same :)

i guess its all down to that reciever. I coudltn tell you wether it will talk to the remote or not. you could always try it and just....send it back if it doesnt work i guess. A lot of hassle to find out it doesnt work though:(

Bought the one without media remote, the keyboard works fine with my existing system. Great! The receiver that came with s510 without media remote is basically two receivers in one - one for keyboard, one for mouse, each dedicated to either device, and so the media remote wouldn't work with that receiver. However the keyboard works with the usb receiver I got already.

What range does the keyboard have on it? Saw one in a local PC Shop and was really interested in it.

Just need to know wether I can use the keyboard and mouse from around 9ft away from the receiver.

Just tested it - the range is pretty good, I was about 10ft away from the receiver and it was working fine.
