Logitech USB Desktop Microphone Distortion

I'm having problems using this microphone with my Vista PC.
The microphone picks up my voice but there is some sort of stuttered distortion noise over the speech when I playback recordings. The volume is set at 50.
I have updated my sound drivers and tried recording with Sound Recorder and Audacity but get the same problem.
When I use it with my mac I do not get this problem. Can anyone help?.

Do you by any chance have an xbox 360 controller plugged in?

If so try unplugging it, restarting PC and trying again.

Seems odd but have a go ;p

I don't have a controller plugged in, I've looked on the Logitech support forums and it seems others are having similar problems.
