For whatever reason, Logitech seem to say my webcam (a Quickcam Messenger I think) can't work in Windows 7.

Now is this because of a technical issue or just because Logitech don't want to write new drivers?

If it's the former, fair enough, if it's the latter, i'll be getting a replacement from MS instead.

I just figured someone might know if there is something about the way webcams were/are constructed that could make them technically incompatible.

Is yours that exact model number (V-UAS14), as there are a variety of Quickcam Messengers (that picture looks nothing like mine) and different ones work on different OSs?

Don't know if it applies in this case, but.....

I had to modify the .inf driver file to make vista/windows7 see my logitech quick cam zoom and install. This was despite Logitech saying it wasn't possible, because it was an old legacy product!!

Thank you for contacting Logitech Customer Care.

I would like to inform you that the QuickCam Messenger is not supported by a Windows 7 OS since it is specifically designed to work with old operating system and there would be no future release of driver. Please refer to the link below to access the page wherein you could determine the compatible products with a Windows 7 OS.

If you have any other concern regarding your product, feel free to email us back.

Time to buy a new one then
