Got my birthday coming up and people keep asking me what I want and Ive no idea really, but maybe some new speakers would be good so been having a browse around.

Dont want to go much over £50 really, dont want to take the mick too much lol. Saw the Logitech Z-10 speakers on offer and was just wondering if anybody has any more info on them at all? Is it worth getting them while they're £55 or is there better out there for the money? Im not too bothered about the touch screen part, just speaker quality and only have room for 2.1 max.

Also, do these just plug into USB then? Surely thats gonna effect sound quality? Would I be better getting some others and then get a sound card myself (around £40)? Im kinda skint at the moment so its all budget stuff haha.

Any info on these or any other options would be great. Im more bothered about sound quality than fancy features such as the touch screen though :p

They're good speakers for the price. I'm no audiophile but i'm currently using z-4's and am very happy with them. maybe worth a look?

Thats what im thinking, take up less room and have a good chunk knocked off this week! Im no audiophile either, but currently using ipod speakers and anyone can notice the bad quality of them haha

Just for an alternative to the Z-10s you mention; Creative T20s.

They can be had within your budget and are very good imo, never heard the Z-10s myself but if they're better than the T20s then they are very good.

Do you have an old amp lieing around? £50 would get some decent second hand bookshelf speakers. Something like Mission M73. (I sold a Cambridge A1 amp and M73s for £55)

I've no sound equipment at all! Not really much room for an amp though, my mate who does music production at uni is always tellin me to get an amp and proper speakers. Like i said though, just not enough room :( will have a look at the other speakers suggested though, cheers

I've had the Z-10s for a couple of years now, great speakers. They do indeed use USB and appear as a USB audio device. The software that comes with them is a bit basic and hasn't been updated ever, but it allows you to have the time or track info displayed which is fairly useful, and there are other plug-ins available online that increase functionality.

Nice thing I like about them is that they tie themselves in with the system volume, so if you have volume controls on your keyboard for example, you'll see the volume level on the speaker LCD increase or decrease.

They've also got a normal 3.5mm jack if you don't want to use USB, or if you want to connect an additional device. I had my PS3 and PC connected to them simultaneously at one point, which was extremely handy.

I've been very happy with them; I had a set of Logitech X-530s before and these are far nicer to listen to. Although I had a sub-woofer with those, I found it was far too boomy and just spoiled the sound, whereas these produce a somewhat punchier, cleaner sound. Still capable of putting out a good amount of bass too.

As mentioned already the Creative GigaWorks T20 or T40 sets may also be worth a look, they do seem rather nice.

I prefer the look of the Logitech Z-10's but been reading a few reviews and the Creative T20's and T40's seem the better choice so think I'll be going for some of those. Just need to find some in stock and then check I can actually get them haha

Cheers for the advice guys :)

I finally got my first set of speakers this week, 5 years of building/running pc's and always used headphones, got a set of creative i trigue 3330 2.1's, pretty impressed with them so far, also like the design and colour as they match my monitor and keyboard.

Creative T20's ordered, but like I said, they're for my birthday at the start of November :( 3 week wait until I actually get them to use haha

What made you go for the T20's over the the Z10's?

I've got the same budget and I'm trying to decide between the two. I've currently got some creative inspire t10 speakers but find them lacking compared to my old altec lansing setup.

Just read a few reviws I found. Overall the T20's seemed to just get a more positive review with very little bad said about them at all. The Z10's just had a few complaints, mostly about the touch screen if I remember correctly. They didnt get bad reviews, it was just little bits that were pointed out that I imagined would get annoying over time. Im sure both are great sets of speakers and I think its really down to personal choice

I bought the Creative T20's about 18 months back and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound. Very clear and punchy drive the size of the speakers. Happy to recommend them.

Mrs WJA96 has Z-10s and they sound really good for their size. They are independently powered and they use their own internal soundcard (they're USB) but they go plenty loud, have lots of 'obvious' rumbling bass (if you like that sort of thing) and the LCD display can be used to show in-game stats (she plays lots of C&C3 which has a plug-in).

The plug ins for the z-10's do look good, have them displaying temps when gaming and such looks good. But yea, u mention another thing that bothered me a bit, the usb sending the sound signal... Was a little unsure. But yea, i think i'd of been pleased with either set, but its the creative i went for

Ah ok, seems both will do the job.

I'm not keen on the usb connection on the Z10's but you can still use a normal audio out and just have the usb for display information. Then again the T20's look a lot less fussy and have less to go wrong.

I'll go for the one with the best price.

Shame I have to give up my Altec lansing ADA885 setup as it's been part of my system for years now. But I don't want to annoy the neighbours downstairs at my new place so can't have something with so much bass. :( :p

Had my Z-10s for years and i think they are great although i have scratched mine to hell by smashing a pint glass on one :( so will be getting a new set to replace them soon.

Ah damnit I missed the deal. :(

Was going to order last night but didn't have time, figured the deal would have finished at the end of the 21st not at the beginning. :o
