Hi all, I'm thinking about treating myself to a set of the Logitech Z-5500 speakers. Everything I have read so far on the Internet has been extremely positive, but I do have a few niggling issues with them that has been preventing me dropping the cash for a set.

Firstly is the issue with attaching them to speaker stands, in the stupid Logitech product demo of the set, they are clearly shown attached to stands. However, on doing some research there doesn't seem to be any easy way to actually find stands or attach them to stands. Has anyone here with a set managed to attach them to stands, I don't mind a bit of DIY if it comes to that, but if it looks unsightly then I'd rather not.

Secondly, is the subwoofer actually a potential hazard to computer components? I know the warning is probably just a daft precaution, but I'm kinda paranoid like that. I always think that if the warning is there, something could go wrong. (Kinda like when they put DO NOT EAT on silica packets) I only ask because it's going to be sat directly underneath my computer desk with my computer a few feet away.

Finally, I'm moving away from a set of Logitech T6100 speakers, which have never been too bad for me, but then again I haven't known much better. They hiss slightly at high volumes and the subwoofer isn't great. I'm guessing that the Z-5500's are a lot better, but are they worth £200? It's a lot of money for a set of speakers considering my last set cost £35. :P

Anyway, thanks in advance!

I wouldn't worry about the warnings stating that the sub-woofer/amplifier unit should be so far away from other electronics. The magnet inside isn't powerful enough to affect anything so it'll be fine.

I went from T6100 to the Logitech Z5500's, ****in' A!

I mainly got them due to DTS/Dolby decoding and optical but they are such a great upgrade, the sound is distortion free and clear at high volumes, I had my PS3 playing Warhawk with the volumed maxed and on Boost 11 mode, very clear and very, very loud.

The Pro Logic modes are good to, I use the Movie mode for non-5.1 video files and it does a great job at making it surround, the Music mode is good too but I prefer letting the system/PC handle the music output.

How do you mean about speaker stands? They come with their own unless you mean mounting them onto others?

That's cool, one of the main reasons I am looking at this set is the DTS/Dolby and optical features it has.

As for the stands; I meant tall speaker stands so I can sit the speakers behind my sofa without having to mount them to the wall.

Not a good idea to put a subwoofer next to your PC.
Well, it won't be right next to it. I'm planning to put it underneath my desk (Which is fairly large), but my PC is on top of the desk directly above the woofer. If it's an issue it's easy enough to find another place for it to live, but if it's nothing to be worried about I'll probably just put it there.
