Hi guys,

decided to buy myself a nice new set of 2.1 speakers to replace my current 2.0 setup that is dying.

Anyone got either of these two? And would you recommend?

Cheers.

I've got Aego Ms. Several sets, in fact.

Also bought a set for the office.

Most common question from co-workers: "That sound... is coming from those speakers?!"

Co-workers bought sets for their homes.

Not quite the bargain they once were [80 quid!], but still my choice. Not heard the z2300s, but I bet they've got too much bass at the expense of detail, if they're anything like other Logitech speakers I've heard/owned.

Also, the obligatory "Aegos have no headphone socket... the socket on the front is another line in for ipods etc" warning goes here.

Thanks for that,

The headphones thing doesn't bother me, you just plug them in the back of the PC when you use them, which for me is very rarely anyway.

The plusses of the logitech for me are:
Slightly cheaper,
Great customer service,
pretty good speakers.

the aego Ms:
Slightly better sound quality.

Having a hard time choosing.

I'm in the same boat here... from all the reviews I have read about the Aegos, they seem like an incredible 2.1 for the money. I'm after something mainly for music, so these sound like they fit the bill perfectly.

Another vote for the Aego's. My housemate has some Logitechs and they just don't offer the same depth and clarity as the Aego's. You WON'T be disappointed!

For music, the Aego's are what I would choose aswell. Logitech and Creative have a habit of making speakers that shovel out way too much bass imo, at the expense of mid range. Aego's are made by Acoustic Energy, who make some very good hi-fi speakers. PC speakers that are made by companies that produce hi-fi equipment, are going to be sonically better for music. The Logitech's and Creative's are fine for gaming and movies, but are sorely lacking when it comes to music. That's my take on it.

As for price, £7 or so in it, not worth worrying about. £30-£40 difference, then it might take more serious consideration, but very often I have bought something because it was cheaper, not because the cheaper was better.

Looks like I'll by the Aegos then. Mid-range is the most important to me.

Can someone reassure me, do they look less cheap in person than in the picture?

first time poster, so hello anyway.

here goes.

been useing logitech z4's for the last few months and thought they sounded very good, then i got some gale silver monitor speakers and a yamaha
rvx365 av reciever for xmas which sounded awesome for music but not so great in games(lacking bass).
had to return the yamaha av as it started having a power problem.

so i bought some aego's m's and they sound great for music and not so bad in games, but i think i will get another av/amp as the sound was just awesome but i would add a sub this time.

the small speakers are VERY heavy in weight for thier size .. mine have fallen 3 feet on the floor several times and work fine. i'd say ( without actually checking ) a good bag of sugar in weight

I "had" the aego's for a while, ( i had the set but one satellite was dud on arrival, thus my opinion is bound to be slightly bias, not listening in proper stereo), i sit at my desk, so the tweeters would sit infront of me and the woofer under my desk. From what i heard from my set the aego lacked a lot of midrange ( again this my just be my experience from the lack of stereo), but that if i sat a good metre or more away the sound improved a lot more. I got the Teufel concept B's in the end, more suited to what i needed. I'm not after pounding bass, hence why i got the 2.0 setup in the end, however if you are after a 2.1 then the aegos are reportadly the best.

I have the AEGO M 2.1 as well and it's one of the best purchase I have made. Excellent for both music and games and way better than the z2300 my friend has, which in my opinion was far too bassy.

Got the speakers today... awesome speakers, much better than any other speakers I've had. Clarity, bass, treble... its all clear and sounds brilliant!

They definately don't have a cheap feel to them. The satellites have a very solid feel to them, and are pretty heavy. The sub is great, its clear and punchy.

Right, can anyone help me with this:

Where on earth do you plug the wires in for this to work?

I've got a load of wires, and the worst instruction manual of all time (if you've never connected anything other than cheap 2.0 speakers).

The two satellites are plugged in correctly to the base unit, but what do I need to plug into the base unit to get the sound working properly from your standard 6-hole motherboard output?

Here's the back of the main unit, both Sats plugged in, single black line-out cable becomes Red and White and goes into Left and Right speaker.

The problem I have is that the cable which goes into the empty two centre slots and the centre jack, connects to a white and red jack (see pic below), and not into a PC. I just cant get the PC to recognise the sub at all.

Now I also have this which plugs into the front of the sub, but causes all kinds of crackling:

Mattbill, your connection clearly doesnt use the front in Jack so how the heck are you connecting up the sub?

Thanks guys, sure I've missed something bloody obvious, but this is really winding me up.

use the doubleended headphone jack, plug on end into the hole on the front of the unit, then the other end into your pc. Otherwise you'l need a cable which puts the 2 RCA's (white and red) into one headphone jack, you could pick one up for cheap, but witht he mass of the other cables they provide it is admitadly a bit silly that they dont provide that cable...

Ok, never mind, seems to be corrected.

Was trying to get it to work on my laptop on the line-out but for whatever reason the sub doenst work with that. On the headphones socket, everything seems to be fine.
