Was looking at the Logitech Z906 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System, cheapest here at OcUK, so was thinking of getting it.

Anyone have this and what do they think about it considering the well known criticisms of this. No hdmi, no hd decoding, some issues for some people with the build etc etc.

It's not too bad for £210. £320 though, is silly money. It's not as good as the model it replaced, the Z5500. The Z5500's at one time, were cheaper too. The Z5500's were very good value at just under £200, but that was a time when a budget AV receiver and 5.1 speaker package would have cost a lot more than they can be bought for now. Now, £250 will buy you a Pioneer AV receiver and 5.1 speaker package that has HDMI inputs and Dolby/DTS HD audio decoding.

The one thing the Z5500 and Z906 systems do have over budget AV receiver packages, is a large subwoofer. Cheaper AV receiver + speaker packages come with passive subwoofers, meaning they run off the AV receivers amp. They can't match an active subwoofer for power, which have their own amplifier. You're probably looking at £350 for a AV receiver + speaker package that has an active sunwoofer.

I suppose it comes down to do you want a system with a big booming subwoofer over having a system with HDMI inputs and HD audio decoding.

I'll be using it with my pc to watch hd movies, play games and listen to music. I like the idea of being pc specific where Im able to fine tune everything with software. I've put the order in, unfortunately not with ocuk since if theres any returns issues I'll have to pay for it..:(

To answer my own question.

EPIC system, for music its amazing, brilliantly crisp and sharp with solid bass, more than enough. Good solid performance with movies, and not tried with games.

Thats on board, going to order xonar d2x asap.
