hi guys i bought z906 few months ago and connected it with optical cable thinking its the best option when it comes to quality surround. what i noticed the i cant select more then 2.1 channels in windows and realtek audio manger and i can only select 3D, 4.1 or 2.1 and decode option is not lighting up. then i plugged it in with the three cables and now i can select 5.1 in windows and realtek but when i test play the sound only two speakers go alive the i deselect all the option from 3D, 4.1 and 2.1 then i get better result and 4 speakers work but no matter what i do the rear right speaker is not working. i checked the speaker and it is working fine on 3D and 4.1 so its not the speaker. my mainboard is Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 i hope i get it sorted dont really know what else to do

For movies you'll be fine getting DD/DTS audio, as film soundtracks have it. Install Media Player Home Cinema ticking the DD/DTS in bitstream.

For games though you'll just get 2 channel PCM. You'll need a card with DD/DTS live encoding for your speakers (or AVR) to get 5.1 DD/DTS.

perfect thanks a lot. I think ill go for this one

I bought these speakers myself too.

Now, I was about to move home, and so, I boxed them back up a few weeks ago, and went back to my 15 years old ( or more )aLtec Lansing ADA995 setup.

I am now in my new home, and due to the sheer amount of junk, I am trying to work through, I first connected my old Bose system to the PC, just to get sound back up... Its a basic 2.1 system and sound fairly nice, but the Logitec 906 setup, was for some annoying reason, missing the wires for it.

And so, last week , Igave up trying to find teh wires, among the still over 60 boxes that we have still not sorted through, and I bought a reel of speaker wire to redo it properly.

Anyhoo, for the last few days, I have been going back and forth, messing about with various sound cards ( Asus and Creative ) and various inputs Digital, Optical Digital, Analog, to try to get these Z906 speakers to play back music without it sounding distorted in some way... Distorted is too harsh, but the sound is certainly processed and when I try to test the speakers, they all play back no matter what, in some way or another...

For example, I have a few 5.2 samples,. and one such smaple that I use, has aspoken voice that says LEFT, RIGHT, Center, Left Surround Right Surround and then a BASS rumble to test each of the 5.1 speakers, but when its playing, I can hear all the speakers all playing back some processed for of the sound.

I have now given up once again, and I have gone back to my Altecs and I have the sound all playing 100% as its supposed to.

I am seriously disappointed in these 906 speakers.

There is next to zero difference between using Analog or Digital, and when I used them before the move, I found they had such a poor treble capability, that I have also bought a set of tweeters just to help them out so I dont have to give it too much EQ ( These were nothing short of a god-send )

But right now, I am back on a 15+ years old sound system, using Analog because the sound is not just a bit better, but its devastating me just how poor the Logitechs are in comparison.
