Pretty obvious question really. Does anyone know if the LogMeIn.com software works with Ubuntu? I have tried searching around but couldn't find any definate answers.

It seems like it's Windows only. Dollars to donuts it doesn't work in WINE either.

EDIT: From their FAQ:
Is LogMeIn compatible with Macs or the Linux operating system?

LogMeIn is currently not a compatible download for a Target PC that uses the Linux or Mac operating system. However, you can use a local Mac or PC that runs Linux to access a Target PC that runs Windows.

Note: Some Linux machines have incompatible Java installations and you may encounter some problems with remote control and file transfer. To make sure you get the best experience, please make sure you have the latest version of Java installed on your machine. If you require more help, please contact LogMeIn support.

If you need to access a remote machine running Ubuntu there are probably better (but probably not easier) ways to do it anyway. If you just need terminal access you can simply set up port forwarding ans use SSH/PuTTY. If you need more than that there's always VNC.

Ha. Couldn't find that, ah well, i'm an idiot.

I have VNC running on the machine but quite like the ease of use from LogMeIn and the fact i can run it from any machine with Java and web access. Never mind, i'll find something else.

Pretty sure you can set up on your machine a webserver with a java app to login a vnc session in the browser window. That would solve your problem.

VNC can use Java too. It's port 5800 as default. In your browser:
http://192.168.0.2:5800/

change the IP to whatever yours is. You may have to enable the Java clenti n the server options; it's just a checkbox.

As for accessing it anywhere just use something like no-ip.org (free) to get xxxx.no-ip.org address you can use.

Main problem i have is blocked ports at certain places i work from.

I have DDNS set up and can access it externally but security is pretty tied down where i am and so far LogMeIn has been the only service thats gotten through!

I use UltraVNC and you can change the port used by either the main client or the Java client. Try setting the Java one to 80 and it 'should' work. :)
