When creating custom text for a logo, what do you guys use? I dont consider myself advanced with photoshop but i know my way around it enough. I've come across adobe illustrator, which to me looks as though a lot of people use more for this sort of thing. I have my vision of what the text will look like, is it better to just draw this text on a piece of paper, scan it then trace around in in photoshop and edit it that way?

Ive just scanned what it is I am wanting to create just so you guys have an understanding.

Photoshop should not be used for the task at hand. Go read some articles about the difference between raster and vector based graphics.

But basically, Illustrator would be a good place to start, lots of flexible tools that will make it a million times easier than Photshop, plus, its a vector tool primarily, not raster based like PS (yeah, go do that reading ;) )

There is probably more applicable software than Adobe but I'm no expert.

Thanks for the advice, had aplay woth anchor pointsin photoshop which is basicakky vector from what ive discovered. Will have to download a trial of illistrator and see where it gets me

Okay, so I've got my design (criticism welcome) but when i save it as a transparent gif, the curves I have created show up as white fill. What have I done wrong to create this and how can I fix this. Do I need to create more anchors or something?
heres a pic, take a look at the photoshop on the right hand side to show what I am talking about.

The white is caused by the fill, the path you created has a black stroke and a white fill, you need to select the path and change the fill colour to the white box with a red line through it to remove the fill.
