i am trying to get my media player to connect to my pc, which is running windows 32bit home (i believe), sp3.

i have a little media player that i got a while ago now, which is plugged into my network in order to stream files from my pc.

it can see the shared directories, but when i try and enter the directories i can't get past - "logon fail", is all i get.

now i have turned on the guest account, tried that.
i have created additional users, with and without passwords, and had no success.
i've just turned off the firewall in the hope that might do something, but again nothing - logon fail.

am i missing something here? any help appreciated. p.s. please don't make me go and capitalise all my words properly, i am quite ill and it feels like it suits my mood appropriately. :(

Usually if the device isn't a windows device or supports SMB rather loosely you need to ensure the shared folders permissions are set to "everyone". Both the NTFS and windows security permissions. (might not get at this if you don't have advanced file sharing on)

Generally XP Home sucks balls for file sharing anyway. XP PRo and Win7 are much better at it.
