This weekend I met up with JoeT and Mulder for a few shots on Saturday night. Sunday I went to the Chinese new year celebrations in London where I captured a few of the performing artists in Trafalgar Square. Very difficult to get shots because I was late, and the crowd was HUGE! I had to battle for a semi-decent spot - even then it was between a rock and a hard place. I even bashed some people with the 70-200 I was using!

C&C Welcome as per usual.

There are a few more in my gallery. Have a look and tell me what you think.

The lighting was difficult as the stage faced away from the sun - so it was like shooting poorly lit objects in a dark box - not good for metering. I went to manual mode F4 @ 1/200 sec @ ISO 200 and that seemed to be about right.

Thanks for looking.

The first one is fab. The silhouette just exagerates the Neo Gothic architecure of Houses of Parliament. It also gives more magnitude to the bigger taller tower in the picture. Whilst all that is happening its on a blue dusk backdrop with dark mysterous waters in the foreground.

Bravo :)

Thanks people - I removed one of the pictures as I may use it for the comp if I get desperate :)

Added one to the Chinese NY celebration.

This is good, and better than any similar ones I got. Although I could probably achieve a similar effect by playing with RSE and PS. Looks good except for the centre contrail would look better if it was a little longer, and the second contrail (on the far right) would look better cloned out.

Again this is good, but the wheel should be in the centre of the image. If you have a centrepiece like that, it needs to be centred, especially if symetrical like this one is.

Nice use of empty space. Gives her room to move into. Its a shame part of her eye is covered by her arm. Focus is good.

4.

This ones seems slightly soft, but that may be my monitor.

This one is good, except for the focus is on the second dancer rather than the first. It makes the viewer unsure where the focal point of the image is.

Overall, good work John. :)

Yeah, I was limited to F4 for the entire day - giving me a DOF of about 2 feet from where I was standing. I had to throw a few away because of the 300D's inability to go into AI-Servo in Manual mode :(

I'm learning loads about metering in different situations - was the first time I'd shot a on-stage performance.

Thanks for the comments!
