London Recommendations

Gordons wine bar, I used to work next to it and would visit almost every evening to grab a bottle for my wife and I as well as some decent cheese.

It's Londons oldest wine cellar and it's based in Embankment. Certainly something only the 'locals' visit with tourists rarely there. However, I last visited maybe 7 years ago?

**** me, I totally forgot about this place. Used to go there as an undergrad. Haven't been in 20 years.

If you are a fan of steak I would recommend any of the Hawksmoor restaurants. They're dotted about in most of the interesting places in London

Yes for a small chain it's pretty good and decent value compared to haute cuisine steak places.

Gordon's wine bar is a good shout too. The Ned sunday feast is awesome! Great shout @panthro !

Personally I love Borough Market and that area - though if you want an even more bohemian vibe then camden town area is cool too.

Shard is definitely worth the visit on a clear day it's quite nice.

I suppose it depends on what you're after, whether it's sightseeing, eating, touristy stuff, or just immersing yourself in the "vibe" of London.

It's awesome in the summer, sit out in their little make shift garden area, get a little tipsy with work makes on some of the best wine. I might pop by next time I'm in the country!

Also, if you're showing someone around Soho and you suggest a 10 minute walk to go get a drink and then take them there. It's always a winner as it's so unsuspecting and amazing.

While the recommendations for taking your girlfriend up the OXO tower are referencing a very old and naughty joke, the OXO bar does do very good cocktails but pricey. I was there last week and four drinks cost £70. Right next door is the Gourmet Pizza Company which is superb and great value.

Aqua in the Shard has great views but is always rammed with people trying to take pics. Avoid.

The ground floor bar at the Covent Garden Hotel is cool and right opposite the entrance to Neals Yard.

Borough Market has some excellent restaurants, Fish! is really good.

Gordons Wine bar is fantastic.

Greenwich is scenic and a short walk along the river takes you to the Cutty Sark pub which is great.

For cocktails the Nightjar in Shoreditch is fantastic the cocktails are detailed but you have to book and pay upfront though when I have last seen.

You used to be able to just rock up and wait outside you wouldnt even know it was there, I have been a few times on dates with the live jazz its really good atmosphere.

For food I quite enjoyed The blues kitchen in Camden and Sticks N Sushi in Covent garden has a nice bar area aswell.

If you want a decent view for free, go up the Sky Garden. You just need to book a ticket in advance and it's on the correct side of the river.

You can't see the shard from the shard as Feek said get yourself some free tickets for the skygarden restaurant up their too.

Nightjar as suggested is excellent
Opium bar in Chinatown is also really good. It's almost like a speakeasy - great vibe though!
Artesian in the Langham is also very nice. Much posher and will be quieter than the above
