Hi all,

I'm going up to London for some work, and in the evenings I will of course be searching out a restaurant to eat in. Given that where I live there's a certain lack of variety, I want to try something a bit different. For example, one night I'm going to Bodean's BBQ to try pulled pork - never had it and it looks right up my alley.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to where else to go to try something other than the usual italian, chinese, japanese, english etc? Either that or a standout place that I absolutely have to visit. (The only thing I don't like is sushi). I get £25 allowance a night but I don't mind spending a bit more than that if necessary.

Hope that's not too vague! Thanks in advance :)

Plus some bars to drink in :)

Nightjar 20's speakeasy, utter perfection.

Purl I wasn't a huge fan, but I only went for a quiet drink early on a Wednesday so mileage may vary. Cool drinks with dry ice.

69 Colebrooke Row

Mark's Bar good cocktails, nice bar snacks and the oyster ale is to die for

Callooh Callay not been but well recommended

Claridges Bar the best service in town, a utter institution and all are made to feel welcome

Dukes Bar ignore the new crap website, the best martinis in town by a long way

Rules Bar great wood panelled room, the doorman will let you in, just ask.

http://www.the-connaught.co.uk/the_coburg_bar.aspx Coburg Bar, The Connaught, full of Mayfair suits but good cocktails and a nice atmosphere make it a good place for after work drinks.

The Lonsdale been ages since I have been, but I have a vague recollection of good vesper's and a cool crowd

That should keep you going ;)

Should give you a few choices. Its worth looking at Square Meal, Top Table, London Eating and Urbanspoon but take the reviews with a pinch of salt. Cheese and Biscuits and London Eater are my two favourite London food blogs, worth looking at if your in town often, they have some great cheap gems.

p.s. this represents a great list of Londons best http://londoneater.com/2011/05/14/kangs-living-restaurant-guide-v3/

For something different I always recommend Wahaca. If you're near Soho then there's loads of Korean places around there. They're certainly different from the norm. I've only been to one but it was great: http://www.myungga.co.uk/
