Hi Guys,

Which method would be better?

I want to be in Gloucester in the morning, and so want to avoid the traffic.

Which would ahve the least traffic in the morning, and be the quickest.

Thanks!!

A40 pretty much the whole way

OR

M4 to J15 -> A419 -> A417

Thanks

i presume you mean the M4 and not the M40 and onto the Aroads? if so id suggest that way myself, though ive never gone down the A40 (not that i can remember anyway) the M4s never seemed all that busy, need someone who actually drives to give you a more accurate opinion though :p

looking at it again, is it actually the M40? im confused now

yes M4 (edited now, thanks!)

I was thinking a motorway is likely to be quicker than an A road the whole way (A40)

As I grew up next to Stroud but my entire family live in Surrey I know the route pretty well :) (Parents are still there, my dad works in Gloucester and I am now near croydon).

The typical route we take is M25 -> M4 -> A419. It is the quickest, however taking traffic into account is a tough one as A roads only a local/commuter will know the answer to as A roads have a habit of snarling up for 2/3hrs every morning.

Saying that the M4 will probably be packed around Reading from like 8am - 11am.

Usually M4 way but it depends on which bit of London. In north London then M40/A40, south or central London then M4.

Reading will be your sticking point though. Safe journey. :)
