So on Saturday we are off to London on a coach trip with work, dropped off around 09:30 and leaving at 8pm we have sorted something to do for the first part of the day which is a visit to the Tower of London, we get dropped off near Oxford Street.

What I have not managed to sort is where to eat? We like BBQ, Burgers and Chinese and have two kids to feed 10 and 8 years old I was thinking of heading to Chinatown and having a buffet, but I know nothing about London at all, not looking to spend and absolute fortune either. Any food trucks where we could sit and eat by the river?

Any ideas?

There's loads of stuff on the South Bank which you could swing past on the way back from the Tower of London. Easy walk, head towards the OXO tower/ITV studios.

I'd also suggest South Bank as Caged has done.

There are food trucks and airstreams selling all kinds of food, most of which are really good. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants for various budgets. Along the route in the warmer months there is usually a fun fair on, along with lots of street performers, plus you have the Aquarium and London Eye.

You can also walk all the way from Oxford Street to the Tower of London via the South Bank. That way you can see a lot of London.... Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square, Horse Guards, Downing Street, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge, London Eye, South Bank, Tate Modern, St Pauls Cathedral & Millennium Bridge, Borough Market, The Shard, HMS Belfast, City Hall, Tower Bridge. It's a good walk.

If you're after somewhere decent I'd recommend Gaucho Restaurants. Had some amazing steaks there in the past. Byron Burgers is also another favourite of mine and it isn't too expensive.

I once walked from Victoria Coach Station to St Paul's Cathedral walked about 5 miles but was probably one of the most enjoyable walks I've been on.

Got into London about 6am, sun was just rising and had red sky. I had 2/3 hours to kill so walked from Victoria to Buckingham Palace, down The Mall, past Horse Guards Parade, past Parliament, Downing Street, Foreign Office, along Victoria Embankment, down Fleet Street then to St Paul's Cathedral took about 2 hours.

That is definitely one of the best walks in London - make sure to wander through St Jame's park on the way down though.

Prob a good call for two adults, maybe not if he's got two kids with him. Plenty of open top busses for tourist routes too.

As for BBQ food - there is a Bodeans restaraunt just around the corner from the tower of London.

Did it with my grandad when I was about 10 and my sister about 8 heh - paddington to st pauls via buckingham palace with lunch in trafalgar square.

(Funny I thought that day was mostly lost to memory but this thread has brought back some of it like it was yesterday).
