Hi all,

I upgraded the processor in my media PC to a Q6600 a few weeks ago. Ever since - even on its first boot - it made this beep on start-up or from resume from standby. The PC runs fine and there's nothing amiss but I'm curious as to what it is. With the old processor it never did this. It's running a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R.

(around 5 seconds in - I had my case open on phone placed right in there so the fans sound louder than they are!)

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Look inside for the motherboard speaker and unplug it:p

It might be normal for a beep after sleep resume

sounds a bit like coil whine which psu is it how old ?

Hmm good question. It's got an OCZ ZS 650W in there which was released in ~2013 but I bought it second hand off the MM - I don't think it's this making the noise though. Mind you, my main PC has an OCZ StealthXStream in there from 2007 and it's still going strong as :p.

Hah good call, never thought about the speaker.

I've had and ran the motherboard/CPU/PSU (the StealthXStream as above) since 2007 and it's never done it before. As soon as I added the new CPU it started doing it which is what confused me :/.

^^ or that if it is see if theres an option in bios beep on resume lol

Will investigate, I hope it's not something so simple :p.
