Hi

Just had my first diseal car for a few days, and since it was second hand and I was getting no where near the MPG. I checked the oil and it was very dark. 60 pounds later for an oil and oil filter change, the oil in the engine is still darker than what I'm used to seeing in my prevs petrol cars, is this normal? Its drives more smoothing and quiter idol now so I guess its not a total waste of cash.

Thanks

Fresh oil change can get very dark after a day driving. I noticed that with my first diesel car!
x2. In fact, less than that will do it.

I remember a very heated argument I had years ago with a customer. He called me all the names under the sun for not changing the oil when we did a full service on his (first) diesel car, as he'd checked it a few days after and it was black. No amount of explanation would placate him, so he stood with me in the workshop whilst one of my techs drained the oil, put on a brand new filter, and refilled it with brand new oil. We ran the car for 5 minutes, then showed him the dipstick.

When he saw how dark it had become after such a short time, he became very apologetic...
