Long overdue upgrade - need MOBO and mem advice please

Hi all,

So, after 4 years it's time to do a bit of a refresh ;-) Currently on Intel 3rd Generation Core i7-3770K CPU, Thermalright Archon Six Heatpipe Universal CPU Tower Cooler, Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard and 16GB GSkill 1600Mhz DDR3 Ripjaw X Series Intel XMP Memory. Rest of the setup irrelevant ;-)

I'm planning to upgrade to:
Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz (Kaby Lake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail
NZXT Kraken X62 AIO Water Cooling Unit - 280mm
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)
16GB

And here's my problem. I know I will want to overclock so z270 MOBO is a given. I know I need 8 SATA 6GB ports as I use all of them on my current board and some of the MSI MOBOs I saw only carry 6... M2 should be there, too (although that's for future upgrade).

Can you guys help? What MOBO would you recommend (preferably below £300 mark, or even below £200 so no Maximus Extreme for me ;-)) plus what memory to give the system equal chances? ;-) I don't have preferences, although looking at my purchase history for the past 2 decade I only just realised I am an Asus fanboy hehe ;-D As for the memory, I know even less than about MOBOs, so ALL suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and in case you wonder, I'm not planning to swap my CPU, so please no Ryzen platform suggestions ;-) My mind is set in this regards ;-)

Thx in advance!

A lot of Photoshop and an hour a day of gaming (AAA titles like Deus Ex, Dishonored, etc, all on UW 3440x1440). 1080Ti on preorder so need an update to power it all up ;-) 4 years seems to be a sweet spot, can still sell my old guts on eBay and still get some decent prices.

OK no Ryzen suggestions BUT i think for editing its definatley worth a look.

Moving on 3000 mhz mem i would get 16gb or 32gb there are many sub £200 motherboards that should suit your needs.

Thx for your answer. Any particular models you could recommend? So that I don't end up with onw that hardly overclocks or is known to those 'in the know' to be inferior etc etc. Also as I mentioned I have zero knowledge of mem sticks, which particular brand ant type could you recommend?

Ok so after some YouTubing and Googling I'm thinking about the MSI Gaming M7 or Asus Strix F. Any suggestions? I mean the MSI with their OC dial is very tempting to me (not a huge overclocker here! So the simpler the better ;-)) but if Asuscan offer a similar results, it is almost £100 cheaper..

Please don't overclock anywhere but the UEFI/bios. It's not a good idea.

Honestly for your workloads Ryzen is the right choice. It's the right choice for most people right now.
