Aslo will the RX480 8gb be good running in CF for this part of the build.

Question is
Which mobio and cpu/ram.

All help and advice will be most welcome.

What is your budget?

Bringing personal preference to manufacturer into the equation makes no sense when trying to get the best power and performance for your money. :)

(I am using Intel with AMD graphics myself so I'm not saying this through bias)

I have no doubt that an RX480 8GB Crossfire setup will be able to run some games beautifully on that screen, but because of the amount of teething issues some games have with Crossfire, I'd recommend a single higher powered NVIDIA card if its reachable with your budget. :)

It's been so long since i upgraded am well out of touch with whats going on in the world of PC components.
So all feed back is welcome.
Just bought GTA 5 for pc. And well. its its not happy running it. and looks horrid. very low settings

Aye, budget will dictate your build.

If it was me I would be looking at mini-ITX/Micro-ATX based system with at least 1 500GB SSD in it (2 for preference) and regular drive for storage. I'm also looking at that monitor (or the x34, I can't decide which) so I would go for a nvidia 1070 at the very least but to be honest you'll need a 1080 to run that res with the eye candy turned on.

Just my opinion.

Lets see here...

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £495.47
(includes shipping: £10.50)

I haven't included cooling as I'm not sure what will fit.

While this CPU happens to meet it, the 4GHz requirement isn't really necessary, as CPU tech has come so far in terms of per clock efficiency since your current PC. :)

Graphics card, a single GTX1080 will outperform RX480 Crossfire, while consuming far less power, and not being hindered by Crossfire bugs in games with bad crossfire support:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £589.99
(includes shipping: £0.00)

See here, take note of pages 3 and 4 in particular:

Your current PSU should be fine to re-use.

Hope this helps! :)

- Do you want to upgrade that SSD?
- What case do you have?
- What CPU cooler do you have? (you can sometimes buy mounting kits so they can be re-used on newer hardware)

Ok (WELL) looks like things have change more then i have anticipated. Will my system take a 1080 gtx? or changing the Mobo/cpu/ram. help the hd5870 in CF. OR is it a complete new system. at the moment am running a asus 26'' 1080p monitor.

am guessing thats took over from the 980?

You need a budget and with your current kit list I would suggest getting some new bits for it. Your monitor should be fine and dandy for 1080p but given your comment on the ASUS super wide it's going to need a GTX1080 to run it.
If you're happy at 1080p then save some cash and get the ATI 480 and maybe even a decent freesync monitor.

In either case I would probably recommend new CPU/mobo/RAM. I happily stand to be corrected on any of the above.
