HELP

I have BT internet at home with a max speed of 512kb/s, there is a bt openzone near by with 14mb/s, it is outside my wifi range, but under a mile away, how do i connect to it? what is the best equipment on a budget of under £100 for the job?

Its ridiculous that in this day and age my broadband is sooooo slow yet less than a mile away its rapid!!!!!

If I could just connect to the openzone my life would be complete and order resumed, please help oh wise ones :D

Well in short, you don't. You're just not going to be able to connect to a network that's transmitted through an omnidirectional antenna a mile away.

The only way you could connect wirelessly at that distance is by using some sort of line of sight antenna on both ends, and I'm pretty sure BT won't really be up for taking down that entire openzone spot just to point it at you :p

my first question would be how do you know its there :P

anyway you could try a highpowered antenna, perhaps get a router like the DIR-615 and configure as a wireless birdge/access point with some high powered antennas even then you can guarantee.

Regards

How far away exactly and it is line of sight?

I've got an 18dB Yagi and I can get a pretty good signal from a site about 700m away, if it's much more than that a 24dB Grid antenna is your only likely solution.
