Hi,
I am looking to set up a wireless connection between a friends house (around 350-400m away) mainly because he can get broadband and i cant... lol :(.

I will be using this antenna : Netgear ANT24D18 18dBi Directional Antenna,
apparently with a range of up to 10miles.

I have 2 installation options, the easiest one being for me to install the antenna in his loft, this would mean the signal travelling through 1 wall, trees and then an open field for 300-350m. Would this work?
If not, i could install it in the top of the tree, meaning the signal would only have to travel across a flat field for 350m.

Also, do i need a particular antenna to receive the signal at my house or i can i just use my current belkin PCMCIA wireless card?

Lastly, does anyone know of an ISP that comes with a free wireless modem w/detachable antenna/compatible with the Netgear ANT24D18 18dBi Directional Antenna? If not (bit too specific :p ) which wireless adsl router could i use?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks for the info, i will probably use the Netgear ANT24D18 18dBi Directional Antenna for signal boost as this is going to need a lot of power over about 1/4mile.

ahhh i see, nice idea :)
Has anybody had any experience with actually doin something similar to this? I would like to know what they thought of the performance, response times, speeds etc.
Cheers :)

I would love the pics, unfortunately im on 64k, would take me 20mins per pic :( .
I found this modem :D-Link DSL-G624T 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ router, which has a detachable reverse sma antenna but it is ADSL2+, would this still work with ADSL?
Also can i pick up the signal from this antenna using my standard belkin pre-n wireless card or do i need anything special to be installed at my end?
Thanks :)

Ouch indeed
I have been reading about this netgear antenna and it sounds a bit disappointing, so i am thinking more towards the d-link 21db grill antenna.
I just need some info on setting it up and where it should be placed (combining performance with ease of installation).
And if it is possible to bring the signal to my house and then share it out again via the router in my house.
Cheers
:)
