Hi

There is a known issue between the Abit KR7A and Crucial (I think it is just crucial) RAM that requires a reboot immediately after a cold boot to prevent the system crashing after about 5 minutes of use.

Now I cannot remember for the life of me what it was that was required in the BIOS to stop this happenning and despite scouring the Internet cannot find the answer.

I would be extremely grateful to anyone that might be able to help.

Thanks!

Anyone? I am destroying my PSU as I cannot reboot my PC by default here either and this new Arch installation is causing me to have to reboot a heck of a lot!

I have a KR7A-RAID and I also got Crucial CAS2 PC133 RAM.

Give me 10 minutes and I will see how they fare together ok?

Ok, I have started it up with both a single stick and a pair of Crucial CAS 2 PC133 RAM and it started up fine.

I have left it up there running Prime and I will update later on.

Anythign in particular you want me to try out?

For what its worth, have you updated the BIOS and the Mobo Drivers???

Im trying to remember that there was somehting I had with this board way back in the dark ages, but I cannot put my finger on it right now????

Great- Thanks :D

Well I am running Arch Linux so cannot upgrade the mobo dirvers... I have not flashed the BIOS but I assume that means a floppy drive is required- which I don't have :(

It is just some configuration change in the BIOS- something under the memory settings.... If possible could you post yours if you have it running stable?

Thanks

It's the KT7A-Raid that used PC133 Ram, the KR7A-Raid used DDR Ram.
Yep youre right I have the KR7A :(

THanks anyway....

I am ultra desperate for a new PC anyway so perhaps I should just bin this piece of crap and get a nice dual/ quad core Intel system instead of trying to use it all the time

just run memtest to see if the sticks are fine?

crucial value ram has never given me trouble in any pc and i find its the most compatible ram your ever gonna get.

Don't think you've yet said if you have the latest BIOS version? This may solve the problem without you having to find a setting, but if it is a setting, maybe it's a voltage setting?
