Bit of a speculative question here but I thought there's no harm in asking...

I've got a 52 plate Focus TDCI which has stood me well since it was a year old. Lately there's been a noticable whistle coming from under the bonnet, like if you blow through gently pursed lips. It seems to build with revs and lags a little begind as you come off the throttle. When it gets to about 2k rpm and the boost come on it's a noticable higher whistle. It's not very loud but is noticable over a quietish stereo.

So, obviously this is some sort of problem with air, intake/exhaust/turbo, but more specifically, what could be the problem and how should I investigate further? I might add that it seems to be running fine.

Thanks in advance for any useful suggestions :D

Boost leak.

Could be anywhere in the pipework system. Are there any oily places under the bonnet on the pipe/s? do you have access to a parts breakout?

It's a 10yo engine bay, never been cleaned. It's all a bit dirty in there :D
To be honest though I have't looked that hard yet.

Parts breakout? I've got a Haynes manual...

Last MOT probably, don't remember anything. Last Service would've been 10k ago, so maybe 2-3 years.

(It's a couple of hundred miles past it's next service, could do without having to pay for a repair for this one)

Defs sounds like a turbo problem but like others say, send it in for the service and get them too look while its there!

and for crying out loud dont let your services over run! Your just asking for issues!
