I reinstalled NFS: Underground 2 last week, for some reason. Nostalgia, maybe.
Anyway...I still find it fun and silly (wall braking as a viable racing technique is something I haven't seen for a while) arcade racing and making hilariously ostentatious cars in the game still amuses me. Gold pulsing neon underlighting, oh yes. It compliments the huge bright red 3-winged spoiler.
The fly in the ointment is the resolution. 4:3 resolutions only. Not surprising for a game that old. So I went looking to see if there was a way to change it and found a mod that made widescreen possible without just stretching a lower-res 4:3 image. It worked, but I'm getting apparently random freezes on the loading screen you get whenever you enter a race, leave a race or leave the garage or a shop. Some looking online showed that the reason is a conflict between the USA version and the UK version. The widescreen mod only works with a modified exe. The only modified exes I can find are for the USA English version and versions for various languages other than English and the version I have is, unsurprisingly, the UK English version.
So...does anyone know anything I missed? Please note that I own a completely legit boxed copy of the game, still fully functional. I'm careful with my discs, so they're barely scratched. I'm only after having a working widescreen version of NFSU2 that doesn't freeze on loading screens.
