Hi all,

I installed vista again a few weeks ago after getting my new hard drive. It's been fine since install and nothing has really changed but the shutdown seems to take forever!

It's taking a good 5 minutes or so to shutdown. Does anybody else have this problem or know what might be causing it? I keep thinking i've forgotten to shut it down!!

I installed vista today, and applied a few tweaks. I stumbled upon this, I didn't use it myself, but it may well fix your problem.

Other than that I don't know what to suggest, I haven't had a problem personally.

I have changed the setting mentioned in the article ryder posted under XP and it shuts down a lot faster than it used to. It's normally an application or service that's being slow to shutdown that causes the delay, by default windows allows it time to finish what it's doing. 5 Minutes does sound excessive though, could be something else.

I've just had a chance to try the settings above. I have changed it to 15 seconds but it's still taking a lot longer than this!

Any more advice anyone?

Have you had a look at Performance Information and Tools in control panel because it often lists problems that cause your computer to shut down slowly?

Ok just checked in there and there doesn't seem to be any problems. Not sure were i'm meant to be looking though!
