Long Standing, Recurring PC Issue

Several times a week my PC will randomly cease sending a display signal to my screen. The PC remains powered and all lights and hardware appears active. It can be resolved only by means of a hard reboot, which results in the standard 'Start Windows normally' options screen.

I have suffered this issue for several years now. The PC was built by me from OCUK sourced parts. In a bid to resolve it I have replaced the following:

Display
Motherboard
RAM
CPU & HSF
Video Card
SSD (although original remains in use to store and run games)
Keyboard
Mouse

The only components that I have not changed are the case (Antec 300 IIRC), PSU (OCZ 500W) and the original SSD.

I have no idea why this keeps happening. There is no common initiator I can recognise. Anyone have any idea at all?

Could it be the PSU? I have had it for years (4+) now. Really not sure what is going on - very grateful for any help.

Could it be a software issue? Is the OS installed on the original SSD? Did you format the drive since you encountered problems?

If you've changed everything but the ssd and PSU,it would make sense to test without the ssd installed and try and borrow another PSU to try, then take things from there

Is event viewer kicking out any suspicious or recurring information at the time of the incidents?

Not that I can see, just the entry relating to the reboot.

I'll have to buy one, but yes, it's possible.

This is probably a silly thought, but should the PSU cable be plugged directly to the wall rather than a power strip being shared with other items?

All your voltages look fine to me

Test with PSU plugged directly into the wall if you can,but tbh it should be fine,I have my PC plugged into an extension lead and its fine

Worth eliminating though

Try manually disabling igpu in the BIOS aswell

I would be more inclined towards your PSU. OCZ are not very reputable when it comes to their PSU lineups and judging by it's age yours is probably a ModXStream which were quite cheap quality. If the SSD had some sort of issue you would get a "No Boot Device Detected" on POST and not a black screen.

OK guys, so if I go for a new PSU, what should I be spending my money on? Something high quality, consistent and reliable please.

My PC isn't OC. It runs an Asus 7800 series GPU, 2 SSDs, a WD 1TB SATA storage drive and a DVD-RW.

Why not test without the ssd first,as it won't cost you anything, then order a PSU if it doesn't cure it

When it happens, have you tried turning the monitor off and on again, or disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor cable? How about replacing the monitor cable?

Tried that. Made no difference. Not only did I replace the cable I replaced the monitor as well.

I have an inkling it may be related to my power line adapter. I am trying something at the moment and it's been fine so far. Fingers crossed.
