Hello Guys,

Coming this Christmas im looking to do a new build as im feeling the age of my 3770k now, especially when doing multiple things with FH4 open at the same time the game will begin to stutter.

i am only on 1080p but will be switching to 1440p preferably 120hz.

My card is only a r9 380, but will be switching that to either a 1080ti or 2080 depending further reviews and cost to performance.

My current idea is as follows,

I either pick up an older 5th gen 5930k and overclock or go for an AMD setup more than likely a bundle from Overclockers, but not sure which would have the longest lifespan, or which would give the most performance in 1440p considering the games i would play would be the forza series mostly.

Money isn't a huge issue either as im getting a work back date end of November just in time to change everything.

I would just like people opinions on the two and which they would think would be more beneficial in the long run.

Many Thanks!

Seems like you have three options.
5930k, which are £200 pre owned, seems like for not much more you could be on an upgradable AM4 platform.
Or
2700x bundle with fast ram
Or
9900k

When you consider you a 2700x is only 12% slower but 50% cheaper I know where my money would go.

5930K isn't a drop in replacement for the 3770K BTW - not sure I'd spend money on the 2011-3 platform now unless you managed to acquire it very cheap. Future proof wise most Intel platforms are a dead end at the moment but there is no guarantee how long there is a useful upgrade path for AMD ones either - more often than not talk of future socket compatibility, etc. ends up being more theoretical than actually useful (i.e. you find that some boards have power limits that preclude them from using some of the newer CPUs, etc.).

I'm reluctant to spend my money Intel way at the moment until they've got CPUs out with new architectures that have fixes for some of the security flaws that have cropped up as well.

I have heard that the AM4 Platform is getting another series thats able to be just dropped into existing boards which is brilliant news, i was actually looking at the 2700x bundle on overclockers and all be new parts, where as the intel side i would have to go 2nd hand, @blaineoliver how are your framerates in games on your setup? on 1080p on high i can get 60-70fps on FH4.

A 5930K @ 4.5Ghz is slower than the 2600X @ 4.3, while it consumes a hell of a lot power.
At this age is out of the question. Let alone it's price tag for used!!!!
Blimey didnt realise how times have changed now, considering the pricing the AMD setup is looking a lot better to go with, especially with upgrade paths available, as long as the 2700x bundle is available on overclockers come november im going to grab that.
