i know it seems kinda rude making an account to ask a question. ive been lurking around accountless for about 3 or 4 months now. and you guys have some sick looking cases.

so recently my laptop has been constantly overheating... what can i say it was a cheap budget one. was an acer aspire 5735 dont reccomend it to anyone.

ANYWAY. i have about... $500 which works out about 300 - 350 british pounds. i cannot type the symbol.. because my keyboard dosnt like to do it lol :P

i have searched and searched all different things but the fact is... i am clueless.
i found a "gamer" package elseware. no idea if its anygood.

for 300.00 pounds. it consists of:

case: galaxy 3 gaming case (with the 450watt psu)
CPU: AMD athlon II x2 240 2.8ghz (i am clueless.. honest)
HDD: 500gb sata II HDD 7200 RPM 300mbs transfer rate
Ram: 2gb DDr2 PC2 6400 800mhz
graphics: nvidia gt210 512mb direct x 10
Motherboard: gigabyte m61pme- s2p S: series

a 22x dvd/rw cd drive
and a 54mbps wireless network card

i am REALLY confused. i dont get what any of it means really. im guessing its fastish?

basicaly what i need it for is gaming / web browsing. im not a hard core gamer. play world of warcraft... not exacaly high graphics for it.

i have looked at the ones at overclockers. still clueless there. i know my budget is small. i wouldnt mind attempting to build one myself. ive read / seen a lot of tutorials on how to do it. and im pretty certain i would be able to pull it off.

things i must have is 500gb HDD.
case / PSU / CPU and a "decent" GPU and ram.
dont need a cd draw as i can borrow my friends to boot windows 7 again. wireless card isnt really needed

i would really love for some1 to help me out with this, as i am stuck when it comes to hardware.

side not: my friend also gave me 2 Coolink SWiF2-12P 120mm case fans. he is a member here on the forums. cant remember his name. but he told me to ask up and you guys would help me out :D

my friend has a batterd galaxy 3 gaming case with the 450w power supply.. he would sell to me for about 30.00. which is basicaly retail from a google search, so case isnt too much of a problem

i would LOVE to get most of the parts (if possible) from overclockers website

Ok....What is the brand of the psu?
Lets say its a decent brand:
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 240 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Corsair Value Select 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel
Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502HJ)
Sub Total : £240.68
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with: DPD Next Day Parcel
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £9.50
VAT is being charged at 17.50% VAT : £43.78
Total :£293.96
Im not sure how much the postage would be to USA
But that build leaves you with enough money for your mates case and psu.

What brand is the PSU? If it came with a case, AND the case + PSU are to be sold to you for 30.0, you can bet the PSU is going to be useless junk.

If you're in the US, why not source the parts from there? You'd avoid import costs as well as the British VAT. If money's at a premium, surely it makes sense to keep added costs as low as possible?

woah woah! let's slow yourself down there champ, i know you're eager but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Would help if you could get the specs or atleast the model of this PSU so we can tell you if it's any good (bad PSU can lead to big bang)

secondly do you have a monitor already? if not things could get tricky, if you do what is it?

YAWNNN! i don't believe i'm awake now. I'll come back and answer any more questions in the morning

haha sorry i cant beleive im up at nearly half 1 in the morning either :P

all it says is its a "ATX 12V 450 watts power supply with SATA pin"

and the case on ebay with that is around 40 pounds with the PSU free shipping.
so im guessing its low end.

i do have a monitor. its downstairs (cant think of the name) its like 17" standard flatscreen vga thing will fit into the motherboard so i can get everything booted up and drivers installed. and my friend is hooking me up with a 22inch screen of somesort :P

and yea. im kinda hyped at building my own pc :P least ill have my friend standing over me making sure i dont go wrong :D

Sounds like the PSU is a cheap job, probably best to avoid it if you can.

Like other people have mentioned, cheap units can cause problems for the rest of your gear... A reasonable PSU can be had from OcUK for around £40 I think?

If the OP needs a copy of an OS it would mean that the build cost would increase.

This is what components I would look at:

AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 245 ~ £50

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-251-AM

Asus M4A78L-M LE ~ £47

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-377-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1482

4GB 1066MHZ DDR2 ~ £71

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-192-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4730 ~ £58

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-200-SP&tool=3

This requires a pair of PCI-E power connectors.

OcUK Value PCI Express 6-Pin to 4-Pin Power Adaptor for PCI-E Graphics Cards ~ £3

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-033-OK

Corsair CX 400W ATX Power Supply ~ £40

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-017-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

This is made by Seasonic.

Samsung F1 250GB ~ £29

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-084-SA

SATA DVD rewriter ~ £15

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-099-SA&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=

Coolermaster Elite 334 Midi Case ~ £28

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-184-CM

This comes with a 120MM fan included. The cheaper cases on OcUK do not come with a case fan included.

The total comes to around £341 excluding postage.

The Corsair can actually supply 450W if required and has an excellent review:
