morning all,

not posted for a while for lots of reasons (lost password and Christmas) but it's just been announced that I'm next up for a new laptop here at work. I'm presuming that any the core 2 Duo boxes with 2Gig in them will do the job in terms of folding?

Cheers me dears.

woo! more WUs!
dual core win!
get 64bit linux and SMP clients on there!

64 bit linux won't help me use Visual Studio very much unfortunately. The new dell precision M90 laptops look nice to me 2.16GHz core 2 duo, 2 Gigs and a 512MB NVIDIA Quadro® FX 2500M adaptor

what do I need to run the GFX based folding thing?

The GFX based folding thing uses the high end ATI cards only. I don't think there is yet one that would fit a lappy.

Having said that my lappy with 1.83 GHz core duo is running quite happily with duplicate threads on just 1GB RAM under windoze. A 1495 WU for example suggests a PPD in excess of 450 per day, per core :D

an x19xx based graphics card from ATI

good to see you around :)

the lappie should give you a huge boost in output even with just standard clients :)
just remember to set advmethods in the config when you start and you should get a decent WU from the off ;)

How many instances of the folding client do I need to put on that beastie, I'm more than a little bit out of touch as to how many cores real or virtual are on these CPUs now a days. It should be a bit faster than my old 533 bus P4 3.0 anyway.

I still have some servers floating around so will re install folding on them when I get a second or ten...

slacker out

that's one server up and running..... all it needed was it's network cable re connecting. I guess that tells me how many people are using the development wiki!

yeah yeah yeah, get on with it, and congrats on the 170K tiffy....

It's all changed round here since I was last online, you've been shifted sideways to gain on of the funky man of honour tags and loads of dons have changed. I guess it was an exciting Christmas.

Anyway, parp away, I may well be able to fight back depending on when my new laptop arrives...
