Im trying to make use of the Sleep feature in Windows (7) more (along with WOL) to switch the machine off more, rather than leaving on 24/7.

Anyway, it all seems to work fine as long as I sleep it for short period (minutes/hour), but if I put it to sleep before going to bed, it will come on (fans, etc) in the morning, but no video output. To get it starting again I need to reset/switch off/on.

I get the following errors in the event log:

Level: Error
Source: EventLog
Error: The previous system shutdown at 23:51:53 on ‎15/‎12/‎2015 was unexpected.

Followed by:
Level: Critical
Source: Kernel-Power
Error: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

No error can be see in the log prior to me restarting the machine.

I have switched off Hibernation.

Is there a difference between sleeping the machine for 5 minutes, and 10 hours? Does it go into a "deeper sleep" after a while?

I've had a lot of issues with sleep/resume with Gigabyte boards, particularly my last one (z97X-UD3H-BK). I also found that the longer it slept the more likely it was to fail to resume. To cut a very long story short I never did get to the bottom of it, even with weeks of help from GB's support team.

Sometimes disabling Fast/ultra Fast Boot in the BIOS can help, also try disabling Fast Startup in windows power options. This will slow normal boots slightly, but may help. It will likely be worth trying the latest BIOS if you've not already done so too.
