That is, the longest time you've spent away from a game only to return (to the save) and continued from where you left off?

I've still got games I play from years ago but I recently unboxed my gamecube to return to my 2005 saved game from Resident Evil 4. I'm about 3/4's of the way through it but I think I moved houses around this time and the console made its way upto the loft only recently to return!

I bet there are still people playing on Championship manager saved games from the 90s?

Kudos, but I just cant do this - I just have to restart from the beginning if I havent got a clear idea what Ive done up until the save. Im terrible for this so at a guess if its more than 3 months old I restart...

Same here, I have to restart. Hate being near the end of a game (where it is harder) and I have to take 1 hour to learn the control again... not to mention forgot all the story etc.

So I always start again... quite like doing that actually, feels fresh again.

I have a champ manager save game from cm0304 that I occasionally fire up
I've done about 15 seasons and started it over 10 years ago!

Over 10 years for Deus Ex, i stopped in Hong Kong then resurrected the save from an old hard drive to finish it off (and 2) before Human Revolution came out.

Wish I'd taken a screenshot of the save dialog.

Although that was of course PC, console wise I'm not sure, I'd have to fire up the PS2 and see !

Rez on Dreamcast took me about 10 years from start to finish.
It still looks as beautiful today as it did the day it was released.
The HD version still gets played on my 360.

Pretty much this for me. I tend to finish games if I get quite far in them (unless they're rubbish), but if I'm only a small way into the game I'll always restart when I go back to it.

I'd usually have to restart - but I managed to rescue my 110 hour Disgaea 3 playthrough when I went back to get the platinum. Only took me about 10 hours of research and play before I was clear on exactly what was going on again!

PC not console but I took a 6.5 year break from a GTA3 savegame and was actually able to complete the bit I was stuck on (only to get stuck again shortly after). Save has been parked again for another 5 years or so :)

edit: Seems my System Shock 2 save will be 10 this year, may have to fire that up some time.

Not played Skyrim in about 18mths and Fallout 3 in about 2-3 years but contemplating going back to them. Unfortunately they are huge time sinks

Dark souls! played roughly at release and left for another game, then late last year got back into it from where i was and am now on 3rd playthrough :) wish i stuck with it at launch!

Same here, I have a memory like a sieve and always forget the story and the controls.

i think just over 6 month for dead space on the 360, just got stuck on a spot and couldnt finish it, went back to it months later and got past it first go lol

Cod2 about 3 years iirc. On veteran got stuck on the German HQ and gave up after about 1000 tries. Tried again a few years later and found a really easy way to do it despite it not being on any videos or guides.
