What is the longest amount of time you've been out of work?

I've been out nearly 9 months now. Originally it was down to lazyness and I can admit to that but recently I'm really trying to secure a job but struggling a little.

1 week between changing my job, I worked in a furniture store from 16 to 19 which went bankrupt applied for RM as a postman being in this job now for 3 years :D

2 years. Just couldn't get employed, work was dry as a camels hoof around here at the time. :(

Apart from school/uni(which I usually worked as well), about 5 weeks after I left uni, when I couldn't find an IT job and factorys thought I was over qualified. Dumbed my cv down and got work within two days.

If you really want to work, there is no reason why you can't get a job within days.

How difficult was it getting a job? Were employers not put off by the length of time you hadn't been working?

i know lieing is bad etc but tell them youve been attending college or travelling or something. so much better than them thinking youve been sat watching on your ass for months on end

A month or so. I quit the previous job as I hated/feared going into work, I have my theories why, but anywho, I got a job fairly quick at a construction agency.

7 months exactly but I didn't waste a second of it and it was the only time I've had off work in 34 years.
I've now got a cracking job and look forward to going to work.

I've never quite understood this notion of people not employing you because you're over-qualified. Surely if one is 'over-qualified' one would be more inclined to give said person a job?

For me it has now been 4 weeks but this was all planned. Just finished second year at uni and I'm starting my placement :)

~18 years :p ¬_¬
Lazy beggar

My ex boss still hasn't got a job after 9 months because everywhere he goes he's over qualified.
He used to run a factory with up to 2,500 people so trying to get a job order picking is not going to happen for him.
He says he is willing to do absolutely anything but nobody will have him because of his past.

Why do you think that is?

I got asked a similar question for my interview. They said why would someone like yourself like to work with BMW instead of top software producers like Microsoft etc? We were also asked similar questions at practice prep interviews, surely that gives someone an advantage at their job, even if it's basic?

tell him to dumb down his cv and lie in the interview

4 months, but I had gotten £900 tax return, and was sharing a stupidly cheap room with my gf (£180 rent all inc, lol)

Between deciding to drop out of uni/getting a new job - 6 months.

Really regret it, although it wasn't a complete waste of time!

I was out of work for 6 months with pilonidal sinus pending an operation, it was most painful. Then I was off for a month with costrochondritis. Luckily for me the company i worked for were ******** and I have a nice shiney new job :)
