I have been sitting on the fence for some time with my 2700k 4.5 ghz and 980ti running triple 5760x1080. Of course many suggest there is no need to upgrade yet. Was tempted for a 5820k or 6700k. I only game, and use the pc for browsing and academic and business work not video rendering or anything like that. However putting all the usual arguments aside. This year or next i will upgrade however one issue that is little raised is how long will TIM last? Reason being one of one of my main decisions will be, how long will my CPU last? I move my parts through family and want them to keep going years after I have finished as the top pc in the house. My kids game on i5 750"s still going good for their needs. Am i right in thinking that TIM will only last say 3 years in top condition therefore intel, are kinda designing their mainstream now to be replaced from failure or bad temps since performance is now not a reason, and are becoming like everything else throw away designed not to last? Whilst the x99 soldier will just keep going and be a better bet just for everyday use for years longer with a decent overclock? If so then future purchases will be based on x99 variants for this reason.
