These my mates stats he on bt broadband adsl max and that the best speed he can get, its terrible he says and he has problems gaming after a certain time.

He has Be unlimited at his exchange but they say they can only offer the same speeds he has now, in reality will he likely get any faster ?

Whilst that connection speed is awful there is plenty of noise margin. That alone and the fact Be use adsl2 means he should see 2-3 mb atleast.

Has it checked how long his line length is? I believe that samknows site has a length check tool on it.

From that attenuation, ~6km. Has BTw increased his target SNR margin for stability, or has the router not been restarted for a while?

Hi few more things here are the providers available at his exchange
The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)

You are approximately 2.73km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
Your exchange should have WBC services (ADSL2+) available by the 31st of March 2009
According to BT Wholesale, your line is very unlikely to be able to support ADSL, although a 256kbps service may be available.

Furthermore, your phone line should be able to support a 0.3Mbps or faster connection once WBC is available.

I asked him about what you saying tolien and he never asked or has he been told by bt they are doing that.

He'd probably need to ring through to BT Retail and have them contact Wholesale to see if anything could be done with his line in relation to the SNR margin.

He wouldn't be explicitly told they'd done that. He'd probably have found his connection was really unstable at one point, and it magically got a lot better. Note interleaving's enabled too.

He says his connection is pretty stable, its just after certain times at night 11ish he just pings all the time around 1000 so can't game, i wondered if this was to do with bt and there throttling.
